John F. Murphy IV, 63, of Candler, NC passed away Friday, January 29, 2021 at the John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville, NC from cancer. Born August 2, 1957 in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late John F. Murphy III and Maureen Coleman Murphy. He was a graduate of St. Joseph High School, Trumbull, class of 1975. John worked many years as a car mechanic and could fi x just about anything. John moved to NC and went to Next Step Recovery to recover from alcoholism and stayed on to become one of the founding members. For the past 14 years he worked at Next Step Recovery and became a board member. He served as an overnight shift manager and was a profound cheerleade­r for the organizati­on. Never did he waiver in his commitment to sobriety and he always looked forward to going to work each and every night no matter what. He was a strong, stable force whom at times came across as grumpy, but the real John would always shine through with love, compassion, dedication, knowledge, and a friendly ear to many residents throughout his years. John was an integral part of the fabric of Next Step Recovery and will be sorely missed.

In addition to his parents, he is predecease­d by his brothers, Kevin G. Murphy and James J. Murphy. Surviving are his siblings, Tara E. Johnson of Marshville, NC, Peter T. Murphy of Stratford, and Maureen M. Forno and her spouse James of Monroe: sister- in- law Nancy T. Murphy of Shelton: and several nephews and a niece.

Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside service on Friday, April 23, 2021 at 12: 30 at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 1056 Daniels Farm Rd. Trumbull, CT.
