Jean Rose ( Heanue) Kelly
Jean Rose ( Heanue) Kelly, 84, of Jensen Beach, Fla., died on Oct. 30, 2020.
A native of Bridgeport, Conn., she attended Bassick High School, graduated from the University of Bridgeport and held a master’s in education from Southern Connecticut State College.
Jean began teaching in Stratford, Conn., and St. Petersburg, Fla., with her longest tenure at Central High School in Bridgeport where she taught social studies in the 70s and 80s. She proudly participated in the successful 1978 Bridgeport teachers’ strike, and was one of almost 300 teachers who were court- ordered to be sent by busloads to Camp Hartell in Windsor Locks, held for violating their contracts. She later enjoyed three decades of retirement, bird- watching and bowling into her 80s.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Charles B. Kelly Sr. Also by her sister, Patricia Consoli, and lifelong family friend Barbara Scalzo.
She leaves behind daughters
Laura Hurley of Jensen Beach and Linda Kelly of Port St. Lucie; son and daughter- in- law Charles and Maria Kelly of Trumbull, Conn.; grandchildren Charles III, Casey ( James) , Hayley, Zane and Sara; and a namesake greatgranddaughter, Mackenzie Jean. Also, in- laws Jack and Gail Kelly of Port St. Lucie, John Consoli of Vero Beach, and many nieces and nephews.
Donations may be made to the National Education Association Foundation or the National Audubon Society. Her final resting place will be alongside her husband at All Saints’ Cemetery, Jensen Beach.
