Imaging company plans expansion, new hiring

- By Ethan Fry

STRATFORD — A locally based digital imaging company is expanding — and looking to hire, too.

Kubtec, which makes high end digital imaging equipment for medical and scientific uses, has purchased a neighboring 0.73- acre property at 10 Research Drive, which is currently vacant, for $ 325,000.

The company, which moved to Research Drive from Milford five years ago, plans to “use the land for the construction of a secondary facility to meet increased demand for its high end clinical and scientific imaging equipment,” according to a press release.

Kubtec CEO Vikram Butani said the company is still working out the details of the new building with town officials. He said the 15- year- old company is the only one in the world offering intraoperative imaging for breast cancer surgery, and had rebounded after a 2018 fire damaged its building.

“We moved here from Milford because we were expanding,” Butani said. “The fire kind of put us on the back foot for a couple years, but we’re back on track.”

In addition to the new building being planned, Butani said Kubtec is also looking to add to its payroll of roughly 60 employees.

“We’re desperately looking for good people,” he said.

The company specializes in the design and manufacture of advanced radiography systems that provide high resolution imaging used in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer and for research, agricultural and forensic applications, according to a press release.

Medical professionals use the company’s products to improve care, reduce hospitalizations and give patients better outcomes, the company said. Bruce Wettenstein, a partner with Vidal/ Wettenstein, represented Kubtec in the land deal and was the listing broker. Counsel for the seller was Sam Rost of Green & Gross, and for the purchaser, Mark Kirsch of Cohen & Wolf.

The seller was a Greenwichbased limited liability company. The deal closed on June 23, according to town land records.
