Doris Vine, of the Maplewood Retirement Community in Southport, CT, passed away peacefully at age 88 on Friday, February 11, 2022 at Bridgeport Hospital. Doris is survived by her four children and their spouses – Harry and Abby (Friedman) Vine of North Coldwell, NJ; Marlene (Vine) and Steven Ross of Lafayette Hill, PA; David and Risa (Rosen) Vine of Fairfield, CT; and Steven Vine and Laura Goldstein of Newtown, CT; along with her eight grandchild­ren. Doris was predecease­d by her beloved husband of 64 years, Leo Vine.

Doris was born in Shelton, CT to the late Louis and Diana Kreiger. She graduated from Brown University, then known as Pembroke College, with a Bachelor’s Degree. Even while busy raising her four children, Doris was a dedicated volunteer to many local organizati­ons and committees throughout most of her life. She volunteere­d for many years at Beth Israel Synagogue (then in Derby), including as president of the Sisterhood; served on the Valley United Way Board; volunteere­d for the American Red Cross; and made textbook recordings for blind students. She was co-chair of the Beth Israel Cemetery, where many of her relatives are buried, for over 30 years.

Throughout her adult years Doris was an avid bridge player, loved to read fiction, and enjoyed going to Broadway theater. Doris also enjoyed going on cruises and taking trips to Europe and Israel with her husband Leo.

The in-person funeral service for Doris will be private, with interment following at Beth Israel Cemetery in Shelton, CT. A livestream will be available on Sunday, February 13th beginning at 11:00 AM at www.greensfune­ralhome.com. Shiva will be observed with a combinatio­n of virtual and in person arrangemen­ts at the homes of Harry Vine (NJ), David Vine (CT), and Marlene Vine Ross (PA). The family asks that contributi­ons in her memory be made to Hadassah (www.hadassah.org); the CT Food Bank (www. ctfoodbank.org); or the Jewish Relief Agency (www. jewishreli­ef.org)
