KEEP AN EYE ON

Backed by bigs: After struggling following the loss of top rebounder Olivia Nelson-Ododa minutes before Wednesday’s game against Villanova, UConn’s bigs stepped up and recentered its defense Friday in its win over DePaul. Thanks to season-high nights from Dorka Juhász (22 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists) and Aaliyah Edwards (19 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and two steals), the Huskies held DePaul to a season-low 60 total points.

Without Nelson-Ododa, UConn allowed Villanova to shoot a season-high 51.8 percent. Two days later, against the Blue Demons, the Huskies outscored DePaul in the paint 62-30.

Consistent Christyn: Despite struggling against Tennessee, Christyn Williams has jumped back into her role as one of UConn’s most consistent threats. She was one of two players in double-digits Wednesday against Villanova (24 points on 9 of 15 shooting). The senior and Azzi Fudd were the only two players to play all 40 minutes against the Wildcats. Against DePaul, Williams scored 20 points with four rebounds and three steals.

Williams has scored 17 or more points in seven of the last eight games. Excluding Paige Bueckers (recovery from knee surgery), Williams leads the team with 35.7 minutes per game in the 18 she’s played this season.

Scouting Marquette: The Golden Eagles took Villanova to overtime Friday yet fell 74-63 for the first loss in their last seven games. Marquette is currently fifth in the conference behind DePaul, Creighton, Villanova and UConn. The team leads the Big East in scoring defense, limiting opponents to 55.3 points per game (the Huskies are second with 59.4 points).

Graduate guard Karissa McLaughlin leads the league with a 44.6 3-point percentage. While Marquette is led by Lauren Van Kleunen with 14.0 points per game and Chloe Marotta with 7.1 rebounds per game.
