Alan Lewis Heady, 77, of Dunnellon, Florida, passed away on February 19, 2022, after an almost yearlong battle with COPD.

The funeral service will be held Saturday March 5, 2022, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 7525 US 41, Dunnellon, Florida. A short visitation will start at 9:00am, followed by a mass at 10:00am. A private burial at Florida National Cemetery will be held at a later date.

Alan was born in Bridgeport, Connecticu­t on January 3, 1945. He served in the United States Navy from 1961-1967 where he was assigned as supervisor shipfitter in the repair division. He served on the USS WASP CVS-18; an aircraft carrier responsibl­e for retrieving capsules from the Gemini space program.

Alan was married to Jane C. (Morley) Heady on November 4, 1967; they were married for 54 years.

Alan owned and ran the Harbor Atlantic gas station and garage in Southport, Connecticu­t. He drove a tractor trailer truck for Kimberly Clark in New Milford, Connecticu­t and spent most of his career working as an auto technician at various garages in Connecticu­t and Florida, retiring from Jaguar of Naples in 2007. In his retirement, Alan spent many years building and restoring hot rods, working part time at his son AJ’s business in Ocala, Florida. Alan was a British car expert and enthusiast. He was a multi-year president of the Connecticu­t MG Club and charter member of the North American MGB Registry. Alan cofounded the Litchfield County Connecticu­t chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving and served on the board of directors for the Irish Children’s Summer Program. Alan was vice president of the Harley Owners Group of Danbury, CT.

Alan is survived by his wife Jane C. (Morley) Heady, daughters Donna Kessler (Scott Lange) of Southbury, CT and Karen (Samuel) Mancuso of LaFayette, GA, and son Alan James Heady of Ocala, FL. Also, to mourn his passing are his siblings - Marie Heady of Stratford, CT and Joan (Joseph) Sepot of Bridgeport, CT; as well as sister-in-law Katherine (James) Nassef and brotherin-law James E. Morley of Fairfield, CT and many nieces and nephews.

Alan is preceded in death by his parents Alan S. and Marie A. Heady, sister Carole A. and brother-inlaw Arnold Kent Miller and sister-in-law Mary Alice Morley.

Alan is greatly missed by his loving family and friends, as well as all of those who relied on him for his extensive knowledge of cars.
