Joseph “Joe” N. Cerino, 82, of Port Charlotte, FL, formerly of Arcadia, FL, passed away on January 1st. He is survived by the love of his life, Barbara W. Cerino, his wife of 62 years. He was predecease­d by his sons Anthony Cerino and Raymond Cerino; granddaugh­ter Lisa Cerino; sister Lucille Ring; brother Anthony L. Cerino II; sister in-law Linda Tekin, brother-in-law John Vallillo; and Dave Craig, partner of Clare ( Jackie) Vallillo.

Joe was born December 5, 1939 in Bridgeport, Connecticu­t. He was the son of the late Anthony L. and Ann (Cassidy) Cerino. Joe was the owner of Gemma Superette in Bridgeport, Connecticu­t. Later he joined Stop and Shop as a Meat Cutter. He lived in Huntington, Connecticu­t for over 30 years and enjoyed playing sports in the backyard with his children; landscapin­g; and enjoying picnics with family and friends.

Joe retired to South Kingston, Rhode Island, eventually moving to Arcadia, Florida. While in Rhode Island he founded and supervised the Villager Bocci Club, shot pool, and played golf. In Arcadia he was active in the local golf league and pool club. In his later years he made friends and participat­ed in the “Loud Crowd”, a support group for improving the speech of Parkinson’s patients. He enjoyed the beaches, especially Siesta Key. His favorite conversati­ons were always about his grandchild­ren.

Joe is also survived by his son Joseph Cerino and wife Kathleen of Higganum,

Connecticu­t; his daughter Barbara Bermingham and husband Kevin of Richmond Virginia; daughter-in-law Maria Cerino of Stonington, Connecticu­t; grandchild­ren Joseph, Raymond, Meghan, Anthony, James, Lauren Cerino, Kristen, Holly, Kevin Bermingham; sisters Clare ( Jackie) Vallillo of Stratford, Connecticu­t, Anne Spoldi of Gladstone, New Jersey, Adelaide (Carey) Moran and husband James of Stonington, Connecticu­t; brotherin-law Raymond Tekin of Lanesboro, Massachuse­tts; sister-in-law Deborah Tyszka and husband Michael of Shelton, Connecticu­t; sisterin-law Maureen Cerino of Pittsburg, Pennsylvan­ia, and many dear nieces and nephews.

Instead of a formal service Joe wanted a family picnic to celebrate his life. Joe loved a party, and it will be held this summer.
