Frederick Nelson Mulholland

-

Frederick Nelson Mulholland, age 85, of Shelton entered into rest on Thursday, March 31st, 2022 after a two year hard fought battle with Prostate Cancer. Fred was born in Middletown on January 5th, 1937 and is the younger son of the late James and Mary (Woodin) Mulholland, where he was raised in Waterbury. He was a resident of Shelton for over 50 years. Fred served in the US army as a Cartographer and graduated with a Bachelor and a Master Degree from the University of New Haven. He was a Project Software Developer responsible for creating the online shopping cart at Pitney Bowes, which he worked for over thirty years. He was an avid Civil War history buff, enjoyed painting cast iron soldiers at his desk, listening to music on his iPod, traveling with his wife, playing cribbage and cards, spending time with the Nutmeg Paranormal Society, doing puzzles, reading in his chair and cheering on both the Boston Red Sox, and the UCONN Women’s basketball team, but most of all, he loved being with his family. He always had a smile, a quip or a joke for anyone who would listen. He was the beloved husband of 49 years to Marie (Castaldo) Mulholland which he would say he fell for her over a cup of Bouillon Broth at Remington Electric Shaver Company.

He is the adored father of Rick (Candy) Mulholland, Peg (Tom) Gillespie, Kathy (Ben) Baker, Carrie ( Jerry) Frawley, and Freddy ( Jen) Mulholland plus his three bonus children Aurora Joaquim, Kristine Samsel and Chris Battistelli. He leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and Sister-in-laws Caroline Landona and Marilyn Mulholland, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by older brother James Mulholland, in-laws John and Teresa Castaldo Sr., John and Carolyn Castaldo Jr. and Phillip Landona. A celebration of life will be held on July 9th, 2022 at a location to be announced in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to The American Battlefield Trust @ www.battlefields.org.
