Stephen C. McLaughlin

-

Stephen C. McLaughlin, age 71, passed away suddenly on December 31, 2022 at his home in Shelton. Beloved grandfather, uncle, fatherin-law and “honorary Dad” to his youngest grandkids. He was born in Nashua, NH on July 7, 1951, son of the late Paul and Barbara (Montgomery) McLaughlin, Steve spent his childhood in Nashua and Norway, ME. He graduated from Harding High School and earned his Bachelor’s and Graduate degrees at Sacred Heart University, and was a Stratford resident for nearly 20 years. His teaching career began at St. Augustine’s School in Bridgeport, and spent more than 30 years in the Norwalk Public School system, where countless students and colleagues knew him as Mr. Mac. A Language Arts teacher, he always had a way with words. In recent years, he learned the art of “texting” as a means for conveying his wisdom and sage advice when we all needed it most. An eloquent and enthusiastic storyteller with encyclopedic recall of dates and memories. He loved the Boston Red Sox and Steely Dan, but his ultimate joy was in his unconditional devotion to his family and the many friends with whom he always kept in touch. “Guppa” was his grandsons’ #1 baseball fan and loved to dote on his granddaughters with Christmas presents. Survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn (Sullivan) McLaughlin, children, Kerry ( Jay) Tolisano of Fairfield, Kate McLaughlin of Shelton, Kevin (Erin) McLaughlin of Shrewsbury, MA; brother, Paul (Pamela) McLaughlin of Stratford; grandchildren, Emmett, Kyle, Avery, Conor, Siobhan, Keelin, and Aisling; mother-in law, Margherita Sullivan of Fairfield, sisters-in-laws, Patricia Scaglione of Ansonia and Barbara Sullivan of Fairfield, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In honor of Steve’s memory and in lieu of flowers: Steve valued the Jesuit mission and adored that his first Grandson had the privilege to attend Fairfield Prep, where he is currently a sophomore. The Fairfield Prep Fund’s mission is to provide funding to students who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend Fairfield Prep. https://www. fairfieldprep.org/supportprep/give-online A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 11:00 am in St Anthony Padua Church, 14 South Pine Creek Road, Fairfield.
