Helen Novinsky Ploski, age 103, entered peaceful rest on January 1, 2023, in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony Ploski Sr. Helen was born at home in Ansonia on September 13, 1919, daughter of the late Vincent and Anna Logan Novinsky. She was a graduate of Ansonia High School, class of 1938, before moving to Derby where she lived most of her life. Helen was employed by the Farrel Birmingham Company in Ansonia, Cantors Curtain Shop and Read’s department store. She was a devout communican­t of St. Michael’s Church in Derby where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Ladies Guild. Helen was a lifelong member of the Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary Post 1562 in Derby and a lifelong member of the Derby Historical Society. She was also a member of the Ansonia Falcons Nest 36, where she was the holder of the Gold Legion of Honor medal. Helen enjoyed being a member of the Derby Senior Center where she sang in the glee club, took quilting classes, volunteere­d with the kitchen crew for many years, and was awarded the Woman’s Volunteer award. She also received the Guardian Angel award from St. Mary and St. Michael School. Helen leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Anthony B. Ploski Jr. (Marian) of Neshanic Station, NJ, daughters, Patricia P. Walania ( John) of Derby and Bernadette “Bonnie” Swanson (Larry) of Lee’s Summit, MO; six grandchild­ren, Alan Walania of Yakima, WA, Eric Walania (Kathleen) of Western Springs, IL, Lynette Holway (Craig) of Windsor Locks, CT, Susan Ploski of Ringoes, NJ, Daniel Swanson (Marie) of Kansas City, MO, Katherine Swanson of Kansas City, MO, and Clayton Rice (Logan) of Winter Park, FL; five great–grandchild­ren, Alex Swanson, Christian and Claire Walania and Astilbe and Phineas Rice, along with several nieces and nephews. She was predecease­d by brothers, Alexander and John Novinsky and sisters, Mary Prokopchyk and Dorothy Behun. Relatives and friends may greet the family and pay their respects on Thursday, January 12, 2023, from 4:00-7:00 pm in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/ BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Friday morning, all are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial by meeting directly at 10:00 am at St. Michael’s Church in Derby.
