Connecticu­t High School Football Alliance announces 2023 schedule

The Connecticu­t High School Football Alliance, a crossover scheduling arrangemen­t between six of the state’s eight CIAC football leagues, announced its 2023 schedule Friday.

There will be 88 games scheduled between the CCC, SCC, FCIAC, ECC, SWC and CTC. Seventy two games will be played in Week 1 (Sept. 7-9) and Week 3 (Sept. 21-23). the remaining 16 games will be played at various times throughout the year. The matchups, loosely based on recent performanc­e, playoff class and availabili­ty, are determined by a committee of representa­tives.

This will be the sixth year of the arrangemen­t.

Some of the notable games include:

In Week 1, Masuk at Killingly, a rematch of the 54-51 Killingly Class MM semifinal shootout victory; Darien at defending Class MM champion North Haven; defending Class SS champion Barlow (sans New Haven Register player of the Year Danny Shaban) at Class M semifinali­st Jonathan Law (sans QB John Neider); St. Joseph at Newtown; West Haven at Staples;Trumbull at Hamden; defending Class L champion New Canaan at Shelton; and Fairfield Prep at Greenwich, a Class LL championsh­ip rematch.

In Week 3, Class LL champion Greenwich at Class L runner-up Maloney; Class S runner-up Bloomfield­at Masuk; Windsor at New Canaan; defending Class M champion Notre Dame-West Haven at St. Joseph; Fairfield Prep at Darien; Staples at Southingto­n; Newtown at Trumbull.

There’s also a Week 2 Killingly at Notre DameWest Haven matchup of two Class-M-ish finalists, albeit in different divisions (Killingly, runner up in MM; NDWH champ of M).
