CIAC to honor seven at dedicaton ceremony at Mohegan Sun

Seven people and one state radio station will be honored by the CIAC in its dedication ceremony to be held March 17 at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville.

The ceremony will be held prior to the CIAC boys and girls state championsh­ip games on March 18 and 19 at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

Those tournament­s will be dedicated to Peter Carroll, the longtime Internatio­nal Associatio­n of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO) Board 9 Commission­er, which services Fairfield County. Carroll has been an IAABO Board member for 47 years.

Six people will receive Merit Awards. They are as follows: Catrina HawleyStew­art, now in her 20th season as the Hillhouse girls basketball coach, with over 350 career victories and a perfect 6-0 record in state championsh­ip games; Ed Generali, who won 578 career games combined at Holy Cross and Sacred Heart high schools; Robert McKee, Maloney’s athletic director; Mary Stolle, in her second stint as Wamogo’s athletic director with a stint as the AD at New Fairfield in between; Terry Musselman, who officiated for 46 years, highlighte­d by working the 1999 and 2000 Class LL state championsh­ip girls finals; and Craig Zysk, in his 37th season as an official on IAABO Board 9. That includes 22 consecutiv­e seasons working the boys basketball tournament. In addition, WATR Radio in Waterbury is receiving a Merit Award. WATR has been broadcasti­ng boys basketball games for 76 consecutiv­e years.

The dedication ceremony will be held at the Thunder/Harvest/Hot Suns meeting space in Mohegan’s Earth Convention Center beginning at 5 p.m. It is open to the public.
