Martha Northrop
Martha Northrop, age 96, of Fairfield, formerly of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late William E. Northrop, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Logan, WV the daughter of the late John and Anna Bell Perry, she had been a lifelong Bridgeport resident prior to relocating to Fairfield. Martha proudly worked for the Underwood Manufacturing Company during World War II with the production of the M-1 Carbine Rifle. She volunteered at the Kline Memorial during the War. She loved time spent at the Ritz Ballroom and participated in various bowling leagues and company archery teams during her younger years. Martha loved to read, but above all else, delighted in time spent with her family. She will be dearly missed by her beloved son, Louis W. Northrop of New York City; two daughters, Sandy Figueiredo of Grant, FL and Shirley Gromadski of Port St. Lucie, FL; a brother, Winchester (Chet) Perry, a sister, Edna Copley; seven grandchildren, 12 greatgrandchildren, five greatgreat-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, James E. Northrop and six brothers and sisters. A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, 1045 Old Academy Road, Fairfield. Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, from 5-7 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
