Julius Greenberger, age 98. Born January 24, 1925. Passed away at home amid family and friends in Stratford, CT on April 3, 2023.

Mr. Julius Greenberger, a World War II Veteran, grew up in Bridgeport, CT and graduated from Harding High School in 1943. He then joined the Army Air Corps, 347th Air Service Squadron stationed in New Guinea and New Zealand. He proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1946. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon. His love of airplanes began here.

He married his beloved wife, Selma Mandel, a master Hebrew teacher, in 1947. They had 68 loving years together.

Julius attended the Paier School of Art in New Haven on the GI Bill. He began working at Manny Maxwell and Moore. He then worked at Dresser Industries as a master tool and die maker for over 40 years, becoming assistant foreman of the tool room.

He was a master craftsman and artist his whole life. He raised tropical fish, had a boat, took wonderful photographs, did oil paintings, and – the great joy of his life – built and flew radio control model airplanes. He flew with the White Hills RC Club, and was a loyal and enthusiastic builder and flyer who was featured in articles and national magazines and won local and national recognition. He was generous with his skills and was an instructor who taught and inspired many new RC flyers, flying himself until he was 95.

His best friend and flying buddy, Roy Thompson, fondly remembers him.

Julius is survived by his daughters, Diane Pearl Greenberger and Dr. Judy Silberkleit.

Preceding him in death are his wife Selma and his son Robert, his siblings Shirley, Harry, William, and Gertrude. He is fondly remembered by his niece Elise Mandel and his nephew Theo Mandel, his nephews Kenny and Steven Mandel, his sister-in-law Marion Greenberger and beloved nephews David and Jonathan Greenberger, niece Theresa Greenberger, and niece and nephew Debbie and John Evers.

Special thanks to Dr. McCamley and the whole dedicated VA team for their devoted care over many years.

Funeral services for this brave, intelligent, humorous, and caring man will be Tuesday, April 11th. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road, Fairfield, CT, followed by a graveside military salute at Beth Shalom Cemetery in Fairfield at 12:00 p.m.
