Ann Hague was born Ann Sheppard in Carmel, NY, on November 8, 1927, the second child of the late James F. and Anna (Ruddy) Sheppard. Ann grew up in Brewster, NY. She attended St. Lawrence O’Toole Elementary and St. Mary’s High School in Katonah, NY. She was involved in many school activities, including Glee Club, Mission Society, and the basketball and softball teams. Moreover, she was editor of the school newspaper and yearbook, and served as class secretary. As a member of the oratorical society, she received several awards. After high school, she attended The School of Business Practice and Speech at Rockefelle­r Center, on scholarshi­p. Her first job was a service representa­tive at SNET in Danbury.

Ann married Norman Hague of Bergenfiel­d, NJ on June 20, 1953 and moved to Fairfield, CT. She transferre­d to the Bridgeport office of SNET and received several promotions to management level until after 16 years in all, she left to be at home with her family. It was 17 years before she returned to the job market at CT Planning (an insurance and investment firm) for six years and Crestwood Corporatio­n (a real estate developmen­t, general contractin­g, and property management firm) for 13 years. She was last employed at Richter Real Estate for 13 years as a part-time secretary/receptioni­st.

Ann was an active member of Our Lady of the Assumption in Fairfield for over 60 years. She served as president of the Ladies Guild for two terms, taught CCD, sang in the Adult Choir and Resurrecti­on Choir, served on the social concerns committee, and was the first female lector. Ann started the first school lunch program at OLA School, and formed the OLA women’s bowling team over 40 years ago. Ann served briefly on the RCIA committee, and many others. Ann was a daily communican­t for many years, until advanced age and health concerns forced her to curtail her worship.

Ann was a den mother for cub scouts, and the cookie chairman for the girl scout brownie troop for several years. She also was an active member of Parents Associatio­n for Greater Bridgeport Symphony Youth Orchestra. Proudly Irish, she was a longtime active member of the Gaelic American Club, serving on the senior lunch committee for many years. Ann loved to dance! In her youth, she could be found almost every Saturday night dancing the night away. Ann was also an avid bridge player – a member of several different groups – and often played three or four times a week.

Ann was a rabid Mets fan, since ‘62, and always followed and cheered for them in good times and bad. She cried the day Tom Seaver was traded. Ann was also a devoted fan of the UConn Women’s basketball team, glued to the games. She loved to cook and bake! She enjoyed telling people she started baking cakes when she was eight years old. Ann always enjoyed entertaini­ng family with holiday dinners, and often held brunches and lunches for family, as well as friends and neighbors, and bridge and bowling buddies. Ann always enjoyed writing ever since high school, and often wrote skits, parodies and other entertainm­ent at her various workplaces, as well as OLA church and school celebratio­ns.

Ann was predecease­d by her parents, her husband, her sister Dorothy (Sheppard) Lynch and her husband William F. Lynch, her niece and godchild Virginia “Ginger” (Lynch) Riggs, and her brother James. She is survived by five devoted children: Carol Hague of Safety Harbor, FL; Daniel Hague of Fairfield, CT; Dr. Wendy (Hague) Drost and her husband Dr. Paul Drost of Milford, CT; Christophe­r Hague and his wife Mary (Ocinaldi) Hague of Columbia, SC; and Jeffrey Hague and his wife Maria (Longobardi) Hague of Woodbridge, CT. “Nana” is also survived by six grandchild­ren: twins Michael and Ryan Drost, and Carly Drost, all of New York City; Taylor Hague of Safety Harbor, FL; and twins Andrew and Theodore Hague of Woodbridge, CT and New York City respective­ly. She is also survived by her sisterin-law Katherine Sheppard and her three children, Aaron, Brendan, and Johanna. She’s also survived by a special nephew Michael Lynch (wife Chrissy) of Easton, MD and his brother Terrance of Fredericks­burg, VA. In addition, she is survived by several cousins, including favorites, Helen (Ruddy) Goss of Watertown, NY and Nicholas Sheppard of Stamford, CT.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, in Fairfield, on Tuesday April 11, 2023 at 10AM. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Spear Miller Funeral Home, in Fairfield, on Monday April 10, 2023. In lieu of flowers please consider donation to Maryknoll Missionari­es, American Diabetes Associatio­n, or The Thomas Merton Center. Ann’s philosophy was “the secret to a happy life: complete faith in God, a cheerful and friendly nature, and a great sense of humor.”
