Edward J. Kovac, Sr., aged 80, of Easton, Connecticu­t, beloved husband of Gloria R. Kovac, passed away peacefully at home on April 26, 2023. He was born and raised in Bridgeport, Connecticu­t and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1960. Ed earned a bachelor’s degree from Willimanti­c State Teachers College and a master’s degree from the University of Bridgeport. He devoted his life to the service of others and his community. Ed was known for his 35-year career in the City of Bridgeport public schools, as a teacher, guidance counselor, administra­tor, and as an active member of his union. He served the town of Easton in numerous roles, including as a member of the board of ethics and as a member of the regional board of education. Ed was a longstandi­ng member of the Easton Volunteer Fire Department. He served as the President and was instrument­al in the completion of a new firehouse building for the department in 1989. After his retirement in 2001, he worked until 2018 as an auxiliary police officer for the town of Fairfield.

In addition to his wife of 54 years, he is survived by his daughter Julie and her husband Andrew Ray of Washington D.C., and his son Edward Jr. and partner Julie Barylski of Easton, Connecticu­t. One of his greatest joys was his grandchild­ren: Colin (23), Madeleine (20), Gwendolyn (20), Michael (18), Eve (18), and Tillman (15). Ed found comfort and peace in providing for his family, and he instilled the importance of an education and hard work in his children and grandchild­ren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. It will be held at Notre Dame of Easton Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Long Hill Burial Grounds, Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Associatio­n ( www.lbda.org ).
