Richard Patrick DelVecchio
Richard Patrick DelVecchio passed away peacefully on December 12, 2023, at Yale New Haven Hospital with his wife, Linda, by his side. Richard was born on March 17, 1935 in Bridgeport, CT, to the late Angelo and Josephine (Lattanzi) DelVecchio.
Throughout his life, Richard contributed significantly to his country and community. He proudly served as a US Marine in Washington, DC at the Marine Corp Barracks at 8th & I. Richard stood guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. His duty extended to escorting and guarding President Eisenhower to Camp David, along with being a member of the Silent Drill Team.
Richard joined the Milford Police Department and for 17 years served in different capacities. He was an outstanding public servant, committed to his chosen profession. He was a “by the numbers” man.
Beyond his professional achievements, Richard was a man of many passions. He was an avid Lionel train collector and had an extensive train collection and layout. His joy was not only for himself, but also for his grandchildren as well as the neighborhood children who were always welcomed to go downstairs and see his trains. He would place a “Conductor” hat on them and let those push buttons and run the trains.
Richard’s greatest source of pride and joy was his family. A loving husband, father, grandfather and greatgrandfather. He devoted himself whole-heartedly to those he held dear. His kindness, generosity and unshakeable love left an undeniable mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Linda, of 30 years, daughter Darlene Strossi (Anthony), daughter Kimberly Price (Michael), stepdaughter Wendy Vlader and stepson Michael Vlader. Eight grandchildren, Nicole, Anthony Jr., Laura, Nicholas, Samantha, Ben, Jake and Jason. Two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Weston.
He was sadly predeceased by Peggy (Studioso) DelVecchio, one grandson, Michael Jr. and great-granddaughter, Emma Olivia.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.com/donate .
