Maureen Glennon Linderfelt, age 83, of Fairfield, CT and Laguna Woods, CA, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 8, 2023, at the Saddleback Medical Center, Laguna Woods, CA. She was the beloved wife of Edward N. Linderfelt; and was predecease­d by her parents, Robert E. Glennon Sr. and Edith Clara Glennon, and her daughter, Sharyl Garrity. Born in Bridgeport, Maureen lived most of her adult life in Fairfield. She was a graduate of Academy of Our Lady of Mercy, Lauralton Hall and received both a master’s degree and six-year diploma in special education from Southern CT State University. Maureen was recognized by the University in 2009, as a recipient of their annual Distinguis­hed & Outstandin­g Alumna Award. She spent her entire career as an advocate for individual­s with disabiliti­es. She often commented that it’s about focusing on what people can do, not what they can’t do. Maureen was a leader and founder of numerous organizati­ons, including Soroptimis­t Internatio­nal of CT Executive Director of United Cerebral Palsy Associatio­n of Southern CT, Director of Region 2 Dept. of Mental Retardatio­n State of CT, President of the Park City Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, Special Education teacher Roosevelt School, Bridgeport CT, and Director of Vopec, Anna Baum Skane School, Bridgeport, CT. Under her direction, and working with the city of Bridgeport, she managed the conversion of a 90-yearold school into accessible, affordable housing. In addition, she launched numerous occupation­al programs for those with special needs. She will be remembered for her great parties, laughter, and love for others. She is survived by her brother, Robert E. Glennon Jr. and his wife, Margaret, of Vero Beach, FL, a grandson, Jonathon Garrity of Los Angeles, CA, a son-in-law, Jon Garrity of Springfiel­d, OH, and several nieces and nephews, Megan and her husband, Paul DeFelice of Cheshire, Mary and her husband Joseph Tarasuk, of North Haven and Katharine Glennon of Vero Beach, FL. Special family friends, Lisa and Strick Woods, Collin and Vanessa Woods, and John Boiano Jr. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., meeting directly at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield, CT, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, 500 Moose Hill Road, Monroe, CT.
