Patricia (“Patsy”) Appleby Malamphy, born on March 2, 1938, in Bridgeport, CT, peacefully passed away on November 23, 2023, in Naples, FL. She will be lovingly remembered by her son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Pamela Malamphy of Naples, FL, her grandchildren, Jay M. Malamphy and Leigh Hicks of Atlanta, GA, and her nieces, Taryn Buckley and Meghan Buckley Crudo of Milford, CT. Additionally, she leaves behind cherished cousins and close friends from Connecticut and

Ft. Myers, FL. Patsy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Gerald (“Jerry”) Malamphy, her parents, Herbert and Kathleen Appleby, her sister, Kathleen Appleby Buckley, her nephew, Donald Buckley, Jr., and her brother-inlaw, Dr. Donald Buckley.

Patsy’s life journey was characterized by a profound dedication to education and the performing arts. She graduated from Laurelton Hall High School in 1956 and subsequently earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from the University of Bridgeport. Under the guidance of Irene Comer, Patsy’s love for dance flourished, and she later assumed the responsibility of the studio when Ms. Comer retired. Her legacy as a dance instructor included ballet, tap, and ballroom dance, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of her students.

Beyond the dance studio, Patsy graced the stages of summer stock shows and Broadway, showcasing her talent and passion for the performing arts. As a proud member of the Screen Actors Guild, she found joy in every aspect of the theatrical world.

Patsy’s commitment to education was evident in her role as an elementary school teacher in Bridgeport and Trumbull, culminating in her retirement in 1989. Renowned for her unwavering dedication, she produced an annual 5th-grade musical event that surpassed professional standards, highlighting her talent for choreography and fostering a love for the arts in her students.

Her compassion knew no bounds, as she consistently went above and beyond to ensure each student reached their full potential, welcoming them into her home and dedicating personal time to their growth. Patsy’s impact on her former students was immeasurable, and many continued to express their gratitude long into her retirement.

In retirement, Patsy and Jerry made their home in Ft. Myers at the Landings Tennis and Yacht Club. Patsy enjoyed performing with the chorus group, playing tennis, and spending time with friends at the Wheelhouse Restaurant. But what really brought her joy was being near her family, especially her cherished grandchildren. Every moment spent with them held a special place in her heart.

The family kindly requests that you remember Patsy in your prayers and carry forward the positive influences she may have had on your life. May her spirit continue to inspire compassion, a love for learning, and the arts that she so passionately cultivated throughout her life. Her wish for all of us: “Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.”
