Shelton police, Mayor Lauretti make up Shelton’s top 10 salaries in 2023

SHELTON — The police department continues to dominate the city’s top salary list.

Eighteen of the top 20 city earners in 2023 are with the department, with only Mayor Mark Lauretti, at $174,861, and city engineer Rimas Balsys, at $145,243, cracking the list at 10 and 20, respectively, according to data from the city’s finance department.

The city salary list mirrors last year, when police personnel held 18 of the top 20 spots.

The police figure includes gross pay, private duty and overtime. The police declined to comment.

Officer John Napoleone

topped the list at $202,126, which included $35,396 in overtime and $50,647 in private duty pay.

Eleven more police department members followed before Chief Shawn Sequeira came in at 14 with $150,805.

Each of the police personnel — except Sequeira — on the list earned overtime, with those payments ranging from $66,261 to $3,396.

Sgt. William Serrano was second at $189,679. Michael McPadden, who was a lieutenant until his recent promotion to captain was third at $188,095. Lt. Matthew Kunkel followed with $186,309, then Lt. Brian Yerzak at $182,032, Sgt. Myles Dupont at $181,762, Sgt. Mark Siglinger at $180,723, Detective Richard Bango at $180,054 and officer Selwyn Sebourne was ninth at $179,647.

Lauretti moved up four spots to tenth this year. The mayor’s salary jumped from $147,438 in 2022 to $174,861 this past year.

Lauretti’s salary figures come months after the Board of Aldermen approved changes to the city ordinance governing the overall position of mayor, calling for a salary bump as well as citycovered health insurance for those mayors who have served at least 20 years and are 65 at the time of retirement or leaving office.

Detective Christoper Nugent placed 11th with $167,105, followed by Lt. Thomas Lindberg at $162,795, officer Manuel Dominguez at $150,811, Sequeira, Lt. Robert Kozlowsky at $150,693, officer John Staples at $148,251, officer Christopher Brosz with $148,246, officer John Giordano at $147,886 and officer Jerel Nembhard with $147,635.
