Douglas Stephen Toth, age 77, of Stratford, passed away peacefully, after a long illness, on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at home with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Patricia Tristine Toth for 51 years. Douglas was born on August 7, 1946, and was the proud father of his two daughters, Meredith Toth and Jessica Toth Mullaly, both of Stratford. In addition, Douglas is survived by three siblings, Susan Jezierny and her husband Kenneth of Trumbull, Bartholome­w “Zip” Toth and his wife Joanne, and Mark Toth of Stratford. He was the cherished “Uncle Doug” to more than 20 nieces and nephews. Douglas was predecease­d by his parents, Stephen and Mildred Toth; sisters, Julieanne Toth and Deanna Burruano, and son-in-law, Steven Mullaly. Douglas grew up in Stratford and attended Bullard Havens Technical School, where he studied the plumbing trade. He worked as a plumber for over 30 years and also drove for the Town of Stratford Board of Education. He served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1972. He was an avid fisherman who spent many happy days saltwater fishing in different areas of Stratford. He always enjoyed watching the New York Yankees and Giants, viewing the visiting hummingbir­ds in the backyard, and spending time taking rides in his truck with his best friend and beloved dog, Moose. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, February 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. by meeting directly at St. James Church, 2070 Main St., Stratford, CT 06615. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, February 1, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford. Interment will be private.
