Helen Chachakis (nee Markantes), 89, affectiona­tely known as Lela, passed peacefully on February 28, 2024, in Hobe Sound, Florida, formerly of Bridgeport and Stratford, Ct. Born in Athens, Greece, she embraced her Greek culture and Orthodox faith throughout her full and active life. She is predecease­d by her beloved husband of 49 years, Steve Chachakis.

Educated at the University of Bridgeport, Helen loyally worked for 2 surgeons until retirement.

She was an integral member of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptoch­os Society, The Ladies of the Preserve Women’s Club, Stuart Women’s Club, and St. Lucie Power Squadron. She enjoyed cards, cruises, walks, bocce, and going out to lunch.

She was a loving and doting second mother to her nieces and nephew and took immense pride in being a devoted grandmothe­r to their children, and the family of her late husband.

Helen’s legacy of boundless kindness, thoughtful­ness, and generosity will be forever cherished.

She is survived by her loving sister, Voula M. Vatis, nieces Chris Marie Vatis, and Kimberly Curran, nephew T. George Vatis, their children, stepdaught­er Theresa Chachakis, her children, and grandchild, along with daughter-in-law Neilann Chakis, wife of her late stepson Steve Chakis, their children, and grandchild.

A burial service will be held 11:30 am Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Lakeview Cemetery, 885 Boston Ave, Bridgeport, CT.
