Officials say new Aldi store near Trumbull border will give residents more options
Director of Economic & Community Development William Holsworth said the store’s location on the Monroe-Trumbull line was ideal.
MONROE — Aldi, a discount supermarket chain, is coming to Monroe.
“What I really like about Aldi coming to Monroe is it gives the community choices,” said First Selectman Terrence Rooney. “With inflation and cost of living being what they are, it’s nice we have an opportunity to give our citizens a break.”
The store will be located at 205 Monroe Turnpike and is estimated to be almost 20,000-square-feet, according to officials.
Director of Economic & Community Development William Holsworth said this is the third business that site developer United Properties has brought to the town.
“The developer had four lots that he was looking to develop. On the first lot he built Noble Gas Station, which was about three years ago, and then
about two years ago was the opening of the Panera Bread,” he said. “Aldi was planned to be located behind that.”
Holsworth said the town expects the project to be completed around midfall.
“Right now the developer is working on site work and we’re anticipating the building being constructed very soon,” he said.
He said Aldi would be a
welcome addition based on feedback from residents.
“From what we’ve heard from residents, it’s the price point at which Aldi competes because it’s a different price point than where the Stop & Shop and Big Y compete,” he said. “That type of price point is attractive for any community.”
Along with Aldi, an the project also includes an
O’Reilly Auto Parts location on an adjacent parcel of land at 215 Monroe Turnpike, Holsworth said.
Holsworth added that there is also an application for a storage facility on the site, but the Planning and Zoning Commission had not yet made a decision on it.
He called the store’s location on the MonroeTrumbull line was ideal.
“I think it provides another choice for the residents of both Monroe and the surrounding areas to find another grocery store to shop at beyond those that are already in the area,” Holsworth said.
