Lisa Brewer Nielsen
Lisa Brewer Nielsen,
91, died peacefully at her home in Florida on January 30, 2024. Lisa was born to Ronald Kenneth Brewer and Lillian Echo Brewer on Sept. 22, 1932 in New Brunswick, NJ, where she lived with her parents and two sisters until she moved with her family to Georgia for several years during WW II. She returned to New Jersey for her last few years at New Brunswick High School, where she was valedictorian of her graduating class. Lisa then went on to receive her BA from Mount Holyoke College, graduating magna cum laude with a major in biology and minor in chemistry. After college she spent a year teaching English in Japan.
Lisa married Borge Nielsen of Randers, Denmark in 1959. She raised her family in Easton CT, where she had been a long-time resident before moving to Florida, and was a most kind, loving, and supportive mother. Throughout her life, Lisa showed a fascination with science, health, and nature. She spent much of her career as a copy editor for multiple scientific and medical publications, and was also an eager student of the material she would edit.
She was ahead of her time as a proponent of eating organic food and a healthy diet, and appreciated the benefits of yoga for the mind and body. Music, sing-alongs at the piano, gardening, and simply being with family brought her joy.
Lisa was predeceased by her husband Borge and her sister Judith Brewer Potter. She is survived by her son Peter B. Nielsen (Claudia) of Easton, CT; her daughter Kirsten Nielsen (Donald T. Weed) of Miami, FL; her sister Nancy Brewer Eills; three grandsons (Zachary, Nicholas, and Tucker Weed); and several nieces and a nephew.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on May 4, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the Easton Congregational Church, 336 Westport Road in Easton, CT.
