Kathryn “Kitty” (Michaels) Midney, 93, of West Hartford, died on April 26, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Kitty was born July 5, 1930, in Bridgeport to John J. Michaels (former Boston Red Sox pitcher) and Catherine Vanek. Kitty and her beloved late husband, John H. Midney, were married for 65 years and lived on Woodbridge Lake in West Hartford since 1970. In her youth, Kitty enjoyed figure skating through which she met her husband. They were competitiv­e ice-skating dance partners in skating clubs within the US Figure Skating Associatio­n. They won the 1961 New England Silver Dance Competitio­n. She was also an avid skier and enjoyed golfing and bowling. She was an active member of the Hartford Chorale for 25 years, as well as other Chorale groups.

Kitty is survived by her son, Thomas Midney and daughter-in-law, Sherri Midney of Bloomfield, CT; her most cherished grandchild­ren, Patrick Midney of NJ and Kayla Midney of FL; her sister, Diane Prucinsky of Bridgeport, CT; her sister-in-law, Antoinette Wedge of Portland, CT; her brother-in-law, Francis Lyon of Fairfield, CT; and many nieces, nephews, grandniece­s, grandnephe­ws, great-grandniece­s and great-grandnephe­ws whom she loved dearly.

Funeral arrangemen­ts are entrusted to the Sheehan

Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mark the Evangelist Church, 467 Quaker Lane South, West Hartford, on Friday, May 10th, at 10:00 a.m. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private.

The family would like to thank the UCONN Health Center Oncology team for their unwavering commitment to Kitty during her year and a half cancer treatment journey; the administra­tive, nursing and Hospice staff at the McLean Home in Simsbury for their skilled and compassion­ate attention to Kitty during her stay there; and the Farmington Valley Volunteer Chorale group who came to ease Kitty’s final hour with their beautiful singing.
