Vincent Robert Serra, a dedicated husband, loving father, esteemed veteran, lifelong learner, passionate sports enthusiast, versatile profession­al, and vibrant socialite, passed away on March 25, 2024, at the age of 86, surrounded by his loving family in his home. Born on Mother’s Day, May 9th, 1937, Vincent (Vinny) led a life marked by service, dedication, and an insatiable curiosity. He proudly served his country as a member of the Army National Guard and Military rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant during his nine years of honorable service. Vinny was a proud father to his children: Susan, Frederick, Robert, James, Michael, and Rita. His guidance, wisdom, and unconditio­nal love enriched their lives and shaped them into the remarkable individual­s they are today. He also embraced his stepsons, Christophe­r Houston and Jonathan Houston, with open arms, extending his love and care to them as if they were his own. Vinny is survived by his beloved wife, Eileen Serra, his brother Raymond Serra and leaves behind a legacy of love that extends to his children: Susan (Darren), Frederick (Lisa), Rob (Kimberly), James (Karen), Michael (Raynae), and Rita (Rick Brenchak); stepsons Christophe­r (Danielle) and Jonathan ( Janelle) as well as his 23 grandchild­ren and 6 great-grandchild­ren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pasquale Serra and Alice (Weed) Serra, his brother Thomas Serra, his daughter Susan and his granddaugh­ter Jana Novak. Vinny’s passion for football led him to found the Shelton Flag Football league with some of his friends in 1972. His vision and leadership laid the foundation for a community sports organizati­on that would bring joy to generation­s of players and families. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributi­ons be made to the Shelton Flag Football league.
