AGreenwich firm announced Wednesday what it says is the world’s first hemp milk liqueur, coming on the heels of two flavors that have won distribution in more than 1,000 retail stores and restaurants.

Bom Bom Brands was created in 2016 by spouses Kevin Mowers and Eva Maria Janerus to produce cream-based liqueurs, releasing its first two flavors, Coco Mochanut and Nilli Vanilli.

Mowers and Janerus have added to that lineup with Fully Baked, which Bom Bom describes as a blend of rum and hemp milk with chocolate chip cookie and brownie flavors. Bom Bom lists recipes for its liqueurs at drinkbombom.com.

In a release, Bom Bom said the hemp milk it uses does not contain the chemical THC found in marijuana, and has alcohol by volume in line with that of liqueurs such as Bailey’s, sold by Diageo, which has its main U.S. office in Norwalk and where Mowers worked earlier in his career. The Bailey’s flavor lineup includes almond milk, strawberries and cream, pumpkin spice, espresso, salted caramel, chocolate cherry and vanilla cinnamon.

Bom Bom becomes the latest Connecticut company to explore hemp as a food flavoring after the Food & Drug Administration lifted restrictions several years ago. SoNo 1420 Artisan Distillers is nearing a summer opening of a whiskey tasting room in South Norwalk. In Westchester County, N.Y., Hudson River Foods is touting a Tempt Hemp line of hemp milk, tofu and yogurt.

More than 30 spirits stores in southwestern Connecticut carry Bom Bom today, to include chains Al’s Warehouse, BevMax, Caraluzzi’s Wine & Spirits, Kindred Spirits & Wine, Stew Leonard’s Wine, Total Wine & More, and Warehouse Wine & Liquor. Bom Bom lists a suggested retail price of between $20 and $22 for a 750-milliliter bottle.
