FAIRFIELD WOMEN SHUT OUT HOFSTRA
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Hanley Courter scored her first career goal in the second second half as the Fairfield University women’s soccer team shut out reigning Colonial Athletic Association champion Hofstra 1-0 Sunday.
Freshman goalkeeper Aytana Muschajew recorded her second consecutive shutout by picking up a nine saves for the Stags (2-0).
The Stags’ victory snapped the Pride’s 13-match regular- season unbeaten streak. Hofstra appeared to have knotted the game with 24:30 left in the match, but their goal was wiped away on an offsides violation.
Early in the second half, Holly Habyan sent a ball toward the net that a Hofstra defender failed to clear. Courter came sprinting down the middle and fired a shot into the lower right corner for the goal.
The Stags were outshot 15-4 by the Pride (1-1).
