FAIRFIELD VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS MANHATTAN

NEW YORK — The Fairfield University women’s volleyball team ended a fivematch road trip with a 3-0 sweep at Manhattan on Sunday, winning 25-23, 25-14 and 25-15.

With the win, Fairfield stops a three-match skid and improves to 9-11 overall and 8-3 in the MAAC. Manhattan, which came into Sunday riding a three-match winning streak, drops to 3-19 on the season with a 2-8 conference tally.

The Stags’ attack was powered by nine kills apiece from Laura Seeger and Mayda Garcia and eight from Luci Albertson, seven from Sonja Radulovic and four from Sydney Williams. Alexis Rich led Fairfield (9-11, 8-3 MAAC) with 30 assists.

Radulovic had four service aces and Rich and Taylor Rudeen each had two.

Defensivel­y, Rudeen led with 17 digs, Radulovic added 12, Rich six, and Garcia and Julia Kallen each had five.

PANEK LIFTS WESTCONN

DANBURY, — Kaleigh Panek of Shelton scored two goals to lead Western Connecticu­t State Universit’sy women’s soccer team to a 4-0 win over Lehman College.

Panek opened the scoring at 10:22 of the first half with a breakaway goal for the Colonials (9-6). Shortly thereafter, she netted her team-leading ninth goal of the season for a 2-0 lead.

Jasmine Grey of Naugatuck made it 3-0 before Aileen Maloney of Trumbull closed out the scoring in the 74th minute.
