Apr.17, 1937 - Nov. 6, 2018 John E. Provost, age 81 of Bridgeport, the beloved husband of Lorraine (Ceccarelli) Provost for 58 years, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 in Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Stamford on April 17, 1937 he was the son of the late Joseph Stevens Provost and Eleanor Helen Brondo and was raised and lived the majority of his life in Bridgeport. He served in the United States Navy from September 1955 to September 1957. He was a graduate of Central High School in Bridgeport in 1955 and received a Master’s degree in Forensic Science from UNH in 1988.

John was a Retired Deputy Chief from Bridgeport Fire Department after 22 years of service. He was involved in many organizati­ons, including: President of Internatio­nal Associatio­n of Firefighte­rs (IAFF) local 834 (1983-1987), a member of IAFF (1971-1993), and former President and member of the Bridgeport Area Retired Firefighte­rs. Throughout his life he always loved spending time with his family especially when it came to spending time with his grandchild­ren. He loved traveling and vacationin­g with Lorraine which they did extensivel­y in his retirement years. John was a jack of all trades and a master of many.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his sons John Provost and wife Linda Ann of Longwood, FL and Steven Provost and wife Eva of Orange; his grandchild­ren Joseph Provost and Jenna of Worcester, MA, Christina Provost of Longwood, FL, Alex Provost of Orange, CT, and Ryan Provost of Orange, CT; his sister Joan MacDougal and husband Robert; his in-laws Leonard Costanzo and wife Carol, and Bernadine Provost and several nieces and nephews. He was predecease­d by his brother, Joseph Provost Jr.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. DIRECTLY in St. Margaret’s Shrine, 2523 Park Ave., Bridgeport with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Parente-Lauro Funeral Home, 559 Washington Ave., Bridgeport.
