Time to build border security

-

President Donald Trump’s short speech to the nation presented facts and figures in support of critical barriers (concrete walls, steel fencing, etc.) along the Southern border to stop the influx of illegal aliens, among whom are known criminals, gang members and human and drug traffickers. Trump supports legal immigration.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal is quoted as saying President Trump “(is) seeking to protect his own ego and pander to his own base.” Well, Sen. Blumenthal, isn’t Trump’s base the majority of American citizens? Trump speaks for me as well as others in Connecticut.

The Post reported, “Trump ticked off a string of statistics and claims” but that, “Democrats in response accused Trump appealing to ‘fear, not facts’ ... manufacturing a border crisis for political gain.” Didn’t they even listen?

It has been said “a country without borders, is not a country.” Years ago the wall was voted for. But liberal members of both parties blocked completion. Even Sen. Schumer strongly urged the wall in a 2009 Georgetown U. speech to keep out, in his words, “illegal immigrants.”

Members of Congress swore an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution to protect America’s borders. It is, therefore, the duty, per their oath, for the Democratic leadership to quit their petty party posturing, to come to the table and work out the funding to build border security.
