The driver of a tow truck who troopers say was driving at speeds of more than 85 mph on southbound I-95 was taken into custody after a police pursuit early Thursday.

The incident that happened at the peak of the morning rush hour caused all southbound lanes to be shut.

State police pursued the tow truck for 11 miles from Bridgeport to Westport before taking him into custody.

At 8:13 a.m., Troop G in Bridgeport received 911 calls of a black tow truck operating in “an extremely reckless manner” while on southbound I-95 near Exit 32 in Stratord.

State troopers located the vehicle and tried to stop it.

“As troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, the operator (Delnero), engaged Connecticut state police in pursuit in the area of Exit 28” in Bridgeport, police said.

Police used stop sticks that “forceably stopped” the tow truck near Exit 17 in Westport.

Delnero was held on $7,500 bond and will appear in Superior Court in Norwalk on Friday.
