Borges Top 25: Five new additions

- DAVID BORGES

A lot of shake-up in college basketball this week, but not so much at the top.

Our top nine teams from last week remain in the same position after going unblemished this past week. After that, though, a whole host of upsets led to five teams getting ousted from this ballot.

We’ve booted Ohio State, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa State and St. John’s. We’ve been one of the Johnnies’ biggest proponents all season, and we wouldn’t have punished them if their loss at Villanova was their lone loss of the week. But then the Red Storm went and lost to DePaul. At home. Yes, leading scorer Shamorie Ponds didn’t play, and that matters. But we just couldn’t keep St. John’s in the Top 25 after a two-loss week that included a loss to DePaul. At home.

Anyway, our five new- bies this week are Maryland, Ole Miss, Kansas State, Villanova and LSU. Where’s Louisville, which handed North Carolina its worst home loss in the Roy Williams Era on Saturday, you ask? Don’t forget, the Cardinals lost to Pitt earlier in the week. Here’s this week’s ballot:

1. Michigan

2. Virginia

3. Duke

4. Tennessee

5. Gonzaga

6. Michigan State

7. Kansas

8. Nevada

9. Virginia Tech
