MLK EVENT SCHED­ULED FOR JAN. 19 AT CHURCH HALL

The pub­lic is in­vited to pay tribute to the life and legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. dur­ing an event aimed at unit­ing the com­mu­nity.

The event, “Unity in the Com­mu­nity Din­ner & Cabaret — A Tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,” is sched­uled for 1 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Abun­dant Life Fel­low­ship Min­istries Church Hall, 195 N. Main St.

Spon­sored by the MLK Bust Com­mit­tee and the An­so­nia NAACP, the event prom­ises a day of in­spi­ra­tion, fea­tur­ing food, song, dance, read­ings from King’s No­bel Peace Prize ac­cep­tance speech and “I Have a Dream” speech, cour­tesy of sev­eral Val­ley high school stu­dents, and more, ac­cord­ing to com­mit­tee mem­ber Diane Stro­man.

Tick­ets are $15 for adults and $7 for chil­dren 10 and un­der, and in­cludes a din­ner of fried chicken, chopped bar­be­cue, string beans, sweet pota­toes, mac­a­roni and cheese, rice/gravy, rolls and dessert. Pro­ceeds will be used for the com­ple­tion of a 450-pound bronze bust of King the com­mit­tee has been work­ing on for the past two years.
