MLK EVENT SCHEDULED FOR JAN. 19 AT CHURCH HALL
The public is invited to pay tribute to the life and legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. during an event aimed at uniting the community.
The event, “Unity in the Community Dinner & Cabaret — A Tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,” is scheduled for 1 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Abundant Life Fellowship Ministries Church Hall, 195 N. Main St.
Sponsored by the MLK Bust Committee and the Ansonia NAACP, the event promises a day of inspiration, featuring food, song, dance, readings from King’s Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech and “I Have a Dream” speech, courtesy of several Valley high school students, and more, according to committee member Diane Stroman.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for children 10 and under, and includes a dinner of fried chicken, chopped barbecue, string beans, sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, rice/gravy, rolls and dessert. Proceeds will be used for the completion of a 450-pound bronze bust of King the committee has been working on for the past two years. Tickets are available by calling 203-645-9635 or 203-397-1947.
