FAIRFIELD’S HANKINS NAMED MAAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

FAIRFIELD — Fairfield senior Courtney Hankins was named MAAC Player of the Week after leading the Stags softball team to five wins last weekend at the Stetson Invitation­al.

Hankins batted .444 over the five-game weekend, including hitting two home runs. She had at least one hit in four of the five games and posted one or more RBI in three of the five contests. This season, Hankins has a .351 average with four home runs and 15 RBIs in 11 games for Fairfield.

BASEBALL

Bentley 7, Bridgeport 4: Cory Listing hit a two-run single and scored one run, Alex Rauso, of Trumbull, doubled and scored one run and Vincent DeRubeis, of Trumbull, singled, had one RBI and scored one run in the loss for the Purple Knights (1-10) in Tampa, Fla.

Fordham 12, Sacred Heart 3: Isiah Daubon went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Elijah Brown singled and scored two runs and Justin Jordan, of Darien, doubled in the loss for the Pioneers (3-11) at Houlihan Park in New York.

LIU Brooklyn 4, Fairfield 3: Justin Guerrera hit a solo home run, Mike Caruso hit a RBI-double and Jack Gethings hit a RBI-single in the loss for the Stags (2-8) at LIU Field in New York.

MEN’S LACROSSE

Fairfield 12, Bryant 11 (OT): Taylor Strough scored six goals, including the game-winner in overtime, and had one assist, and Patrick Drake and Dylan Beckwith each had two goals and two assists in the win for the Stags (3-3) at Beirne Stadium in Smithfield, R.I.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

Southern New Hampshire 20, Bridgeport 11: Shyla Murray had three goals and one assist, Barbara Orsini had two goals and one assist and Julia Ruscio and Megan Kreitler, of Shelton, each scored two goals in the loss for the Purple Knights (1-3) at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

SOFTBALL

Bridgeport 7, Bentley 2; Lock Haven 3, Bridgeport 1: Elyssa Marmolejo went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored, Samantha Sabor went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Kaira Ramon, of Stamford, singled and scored two runs in the first game and Allison Luzzi, Ramon, Kamryn Beach and Stephanie Dean each singled and Abbigail Blanchard scored the team’s only run in the second game for the Purple Knights (8-2) in Clermont, Fla.
