Cops ID man found dead on train bridge
DERBY — A 55yearold man was pronounced dead Tuesday after being found on the railroad bridge connecting Derby and Shelton, according to police.
Police Wednesday identified the man as Gary Laneuville.
Foul play is not suspected, police said.
Derby police Lt. Sal Frosceno said Derby and Shelton police responded to the Housatonic Railroad train trestle at about 6 p.m. on a report of an unresponsive male.
“Emergency services treated and removed that person from the trestle and transported him to Griffin Hospital where he was pronounced dead,” Frosceno said.
Frosceno said police are waiting for autopsy results from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause and manner of Laneuville’s death.
“Initial investigation revealed no signs of foul play,” Frosceno said.
MetroNorth railroad reported delays on its Waterbury Branch Tuesday due to police activity, but the bridge where the man was found is not an active railroad track.
Frosceno said the railroad was notified as a precaution.
