Josephine Lazzaro Ganino

-

Josephine Lazzaro Ganino, 92, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully, December 11, with her dear family at her side. Josephine was born March 3, 1928, the daughter of the late Loreto and Paulina Vento Lazzaro and was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Michael B. Ganino, Sr. She graduated from Greenwich High School in 1946 and while she could have done so many things with her life, she chose to make her family her highest priority.

Jo volunteered for many years at St. John’s R.C. Church in Stamford, from chairing fundraisers and Annual Holiday Fairs to preparing meatball and sausage grinders with her sisters in the lower church for so many to enjoy. As a choir member and solo vocalist, Jo truly had the voice of an angel…she recorded professionally issuing a record, “On the Road to a Sentimental Journey”. Her grandchildren were proud to have her sing at each of their weddings.

The light of Josephine’s life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating wonderful memories with each of them and their families, from trips to the beach and the parks, giving them haircuts when they were little and for her famous Italian Wedding Soup.

Josephine is survived by her children: Michael B. Ganino,

Jr. (Patricia) of Trumbull, David Ganino (Stamford) and Rosemary Ganino (Norwalk) and her grandchildren: Michael F. Ganino (Gloria), Catherine Sommer (Ronald) and Christina Huydic (Craig) and Gabrielle Ganino.

She will be dearly missed by her great-grandchildren: Michael, Jonathan and Deanna Ganino; Christopher and Stefanie Sommer, and Craig, Jr. and Christian Huydic and numerous nieces, nephews and especially her niece, Jeannette Covino, who was like a sister to her.

Josephine was predeceased by her brothers: Augustus (Augie), Carmine and Loreto (Jack) Lazzaro and sisters: Thomasina Radicia, Mary Tartaglia Ferrell, Rose Lena Leonowitz, Armelinda (Millie) Caraszi, Antoinette Mogelnicki and Augusta (Gussie) Masone.

A walk-through wake service will be held on the morning of Saturday, December 19th from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Avenue in Stamford, CT. A prayer service for Jo will begin promptly at 10 a.m. The entombment and committal service will be private.

In accordance with the restrictions due to COVID-19 please be sure to wear a face covering and observe social distancing standards when coming to the funeral home.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Lee Silva, Karen, her hospice nurse, and Millie, her caregiver for their loving care.
