Kateri Baron Streifel, age 51, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 27, 2021, at her home in Seymour, CT. Kateri was born on March 6, 1969 in Derby, CT, the daughter of Eugene Baron and Maureen Comerford Baron. Kateri attended Ansonia schools and received an Associate’s Degree in Nursing at Naugatuck Valley Community College. Soon after, Kate followed her lifelong dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. She loved nursing and was presented with the Florence Nightingal­e Award. Her thoughtful, cheerful and compassion­ate personalit­y enabled Kate to bring hope and healing to many. She was always willing to help friends and family. Kateri was a loving mother to two sons: James and Nicholas. She was proud of their accomplish­ments and never missed an opportunit­y to “sing their praises”. Kateri loved cooking meals for her family, reading a good book and raising her canine friends: Ginger, Bailey, Daisy and Duke. Kateri is survived by her sons, Nicholas Streifel (and partner Emily Walters) and James A.

Streifel (and partner Danielle Matos); former husband, James E. Streifel; partner, Rand Cottrell; her parents, Eugene and Maureen Baron; Aunts, Anne Roberts, Margaret Mary Comerford and Irene Baron; uncle, Edward Roberts; nephews, Eugene and Jack Baron; nieces, Elizabeth Bamberg (and partner Tyler) and Maureen Baron; special friends, Victoria Racamato and John Lindholm. Kateri was predecease­d by her siblings Eugene Baron and Anne Baron.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Home, 91 North Cliff St., Ansonia. On Thursday, friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of the Assumption, 61 North Cliff St., Ansonia. Burial will be a Mount St. Peter’s Cemetery, Derby.

Kateri courageous­ly battled Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) for several years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Reflex Sympatheti­c Dystrophy Syndrome Associatio­n (RSDSA), in care of the funeral director.
