KEEP AN EYE ON

Defense, rebounding: UConn lead the Big East by allowing just 64.3 points per game. The Huskies haven’t allowed more than 70 points since an 80-72 win at Xavier on Feb. 13. In their prior meeting with the Hoyas just 11 days ago in Washington, D.C., UConn held Georgetown to just 36 percent shooting in a 70-57 win.

Georgetown, meanwhile, leads the Big East in rebounding (40.6) and rebounding margin (plus-5.1). However, the Hoyas were outrebounded badly by the Huskies in that previous matchup, 46-30.

“That’s our identity: Every time we play, try to be the hardest-playing team on the court,” UConn coach Dan Hurley said. “Defensively, on the glass. You can’t always control how you shoot it, but you can control your effort, your attitude, how you defend and how you rebound.”

Martin’s issues: Tyrese Martin went scoreless in 31 minutes on Wednesday at Seton Hall and hasn’t scored in double figures the past four games. But Hurley isn’t too worried.

“I just think he’s going through a tough stretch. I’m confident we’ll get him going. We need him on the glass, we need him defending. We’ve got a deep team, so we don’t need anyone to get caught up in how their individual offensive night is going. We’ll find enough guys to have some offense. We’ve got to be elite defensively, and we’ve got to rebound. And he helps us do both.”

Injury updates: Josh Carlton, who sprained his ankle a week earlier against Marquette and “was about 80 percent” while not playing at all on Wednesday, is “now closer to 90-95 percent,” per Hurley. The coach added that Whaley has been limited somewhat by a hip issue, but should be good to go on Saturday.

Blair warner: Jahvon Blair leads Georgetown and ranks sixth in the Big East in scoring (15.6 ppg), but he came off the bench in Tuesday’s win over Xavier. Blair, who also ranks eighth in the league in assists (4.2 apg), scored 12 points on 3-for-13 shooting in 29 minutes for the Hoyas.
