Verizon: 911 service restored for wireless callers in Conn.

- By Peter Yankowski

Verizon said a cut fiber was the culprit after multiple police agencies in Connecticut reported the carrier’s customers were having issues reaching 911 throughout the state.

Chris Serico, a Verizon spokesman, said “a fiber cut” Thursday afternoon affected wireless calls to 911 centers. He said the issue has been resolved as of just after 7 p.m.

“Our network engineers worked quickly to reroute network traffic to ensure prompt restoration,” Serico said.

A notice sent through the state’s emergency alert system said the issue was only affecting Verizon users, and that the company was aware of the issue and working on it.

The Ridgefield Police Department said on Facebook that Verizon users were also having issues calling their non-emergency line.

“Verizon users should use landlines in the meantime when calling the police department,” the department said.
