Thomas Joseph “TJ” Doherty, age 43 of Stratford passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Yale New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael’s Campus after a short illness. He was the beloved husband to Berenice Vizcaino Doherty. Born on March 12, 1978 in Bridgeport, he was a son of Thomas P. Doherty and his wife Donna of Shelton and Patricia Ann BertigDow and her husband Scott of Clinton. Father, “hero”, to Alexandria and Collin Doherty, his two precious and cherished children, for whom his sun rose and set each day.

In addition to his parents and his loving wife and children, TJ is survived by his mother and father in law, Apolinar and Anparo Vizcaino, sister, Amy ( Jim) Wiltsie of Stratford and his brother, Patrick (Mary Catherine) Doherty of Holliston, MA, step sister, Mary (Mark) Reedy of Brandon, MS and step brothers; David Carrano of Shelton and Joseph Carrano of Stratford. He is also survived by brother’s in-law, Nate and Oto Vizcaino. TJ was predecease­d by his step brother, Chris Dow, of Virginia Beach, VA.

TJ was largely known and admired as, “Uncle TJ” and leaves so many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. Some of his other most favorite titles were “cousin”, “godfather”, “coach”, “coworker” and “friend”. He was larger than life with the brightest blue eyes, a magnetic personalit­y and heart of pure gold. His departure from this world leaves a gaping hole in the lives and the hearts of a countless number of people.

TJ was a true Stratford kid who participat­ed in all youth activities and went on to play baseball, basketball and football for Stratford High School, member of the Class of 1996. One of his greatest memories of his time spent at SHS was being coerced to take the stage for SHS drama, with his greatest friends by his side.

TJ was proudly employed by Eversource as an electricia­n where he made many great friendship­s. He stood for his co-workers as a union official, always there for someone in need. Coach TJ was extremely dedicated to others and loved coaching. He volunteere­d with the Stratford Baseball Associatio­n, Sterling House and Police Athletic League. Coach TJ had a certain style and flair to teach his players to be strong, respectful and play hard. He led with love and was always a true inspiratio­n to all his players and families, and will be sadly missed by them all. TJ was superman, to everyone, always, without question.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 17, 2021 meeting directly at 3:30 pm at Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, with Fr. Nicholas Pavia officiatin­g. Interment will be held privately at a later date. A walk-through visitation will be held on Sunday, May 16, 2021 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the Dennis & D’Arcy-Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street, Stratford.

Please enter the rear of the building and follow the direction of the staff to pay respects to TJ and his family and kindly exit without lingering to allow other family and friends to visit. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to; Stratford Baseball Associatio­n, a league he invested so much in as coach and board member.
