3 Bridgeport men charged after mall incident

- By Leah Brennan

TRUMBULL — Officials arrested three Bridgeport residents Monday after an incident at the Westfield Trumbull mall in which “several police vehicles” were hit, according to police.

One of the men, 23-year-old Dominique Reid, has been charged with first-degree larceny, reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit, evading motor vehicle accident, first-degree reckless endangerment and interfering with an officer, a release from Trumbull police read.

The other two men — 24-yearold Hector Delgado and 29-yearold Xavier Rondon — were both charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, police said.

Detectives located a stolen Audi in the parking lot of the mall, and town police “set up surveillance” on it until the men came back and got in the Audi around 2:30 p.m., according to police. The vehicle was stolen out of Yonkers, N.Y., police said.

“As officers approached the occupied Audi, Delgado and Rondon were apprehended, but Reid remained inside the driver’s seat of the vehicle,” police said in the release. “Reid then sped away striking several police and innocent bystander vehicles to elude capture.”

Police say Reid kept driving “recklessly through Westfield mall property” before leaving it “by traveling the wrong way up the Main Street entrance ramp.”

He eventually went on the northbound entrance ramp to the Merritt Parkway, and when he was merging, Reid turned the Audi and moved south “into oncoming traffic in the northbound lane,” police said.

“After a short distance, Reid abandoned the stolen Audi and continued to flee police on foot, but was later captured in a nearby residential neighborhood,” police said.

There weren’t any injuries reported in the incidents, according to police.

Bond was set at $100,000 for Reid, and bonds for Delgado and Rondon were set at $25,000, police said. All of the men have court appearances scheduled for Aug. 6.
