POLICE ARREST THREE TEENS IN WEEKEND CAR BURGLARIES

-

Three teens were taken into custody over the weekend in connection with overnight car burglaries in town, according to police.

A 16-year-old individual and two 14-year-old individuals, all from Bridgeport, were taken into custody around 4 a.m. Sunday after residents reported young kids going through unlocked vehicles parked on the street, Lt. Brian Weir said

Weir said the call first came in about several individual “tampering” with cars on Pinehurst Street who ran to a white sedan and fled.

The first arriving units found a white Nissan unoccupied and still running on Gwendolyn Drive near Main Street. Weir said one 14-year-old individuals was found nearby and taken into custody.

A police dog from Stratford was called in to help track the remaining individuals, which led police to the other 14-year-old, who was walking nearby on Main Street.

The 16-year-old was later found in the area, in possession of the key fob for the Nissan that was abandoned on Gwendolyn Drive, and taken into custody, Weir said.

Police found that the Nissan was reported stolen to Bridgeport police on Aug. 13. Inside the Nissan, Weir said, officers found a variety of property stolen from several other vehicles in the area.

The three teens were each charged with third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny and interfering with an officer. One of the 14-year-old individuals was issued an additional offense of interfering with an officer for allegedly giving a false name when he was being processed for arrest, Weir said.

All three were released into the custody of a parent. They were each issued a promise to appear in juvenile court on Monday.

Weir said after these incidents, police are urging residents to always lock their vehicles, remove any valuables and never leave the keys inside.
