Party isn’t everything
A recent letter writer encouraged voters to vote strictly for Democratic candidates as the Republican Party was filled with evil name-calling legislators, bullying and far right wing candidates.
I would encourage all voters to look at each candidate regardless of party affiliation as there are some real duds in the Democratic Party also — you have a state legislator charged with stealing $650,000 of COVID relief money, another state senator facing accusations and more.
The facts are that both parties have some real duds and some real keepers. In Seymour our Republican first selectman is running unopposed because she has been doing an exceptional job and the Democratic Party didn’t have anyone capable of challenging her and winning.
In Shelton you have a mayor who has done an exceptional job in growing the city and keeping their tax rate down. Oxford has a Republican first selectman who has been responsible for bringing in new businesses and managing the growth efficiently.
In New Britain there is a mayor who has done a great job of managing her city and bringing growth and improvements to the city.
All keepers.
The choice of who you vote for should be made on their platforms, their actions and their accomplishments not on party affiliation. Take the time to learn who the candidates are and what their positions are, then vote for who you think is the best candidate, but don’t paint all Republicans as evil and all Democrats as socialist big spenders; each party has its good and bad apples.
