Police looking for Bridgeport man allegedly tied to shooting
WATERBURY — Police said they are looking for a Bridgeport man who allegedly shot a woman in the city early Wednesday.
Police were called to a Waterbury residence around 12:09 a.m. and confirmed several gunshots were fired in the area. Later, police learned a 21-year-old woman was dropped off at a Bridgeport hospital for a non-lifethreatening gunshot wound to her left tricep as a result of the incident, the Waterbury Police Department said.
Police said they identified Bridgeport resident Clifton Williams, 40, as a suspect. Despite an extensive search from Waterbury and Bridgeport police, officials said they were unable to find Williams. An active warrant charges Williams with reckless driving, criminal possession of a pistol or a revolver, criminal possession of a firearm or ammunition, illegal weapon in a motor vehicle, carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal sale or transfer of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment, two counts of first-degree assault, criminal attempt at first-degree assault, firstdegree kidnapping and criminal use of a weapon, police said.
In 2014, Williams was convicted of first-degree unlawful restraint and served nine months in jail, records show. Three years later, Williams was convicted of third-degree strangulation and interfering with an emergency call, according to state court records.
Anyone with information on this incident or on Williams’ whereabouts should contact the Waterbury Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 203-574-6941. Anonymous tips can be left by calling Crime Stoppers at 203-755-1234.
