Sylvia Frumer

-

Sylvia, age 93, passed away on April 7, 2022 at home, surrounded by her loving and devoted family. Born in Hartford to Irving and Rebecca (Silverstein) Snitkin, she spent most of her youth in Norwich, where she graduated in 1946 from the Norwich Free Academy, continuing her schooling at Connecticut College, graduating in 1950 with a degree in social work.

Soon after starting her first career assignment at the Henry Street Settlement in New York City, she married the late David Kreiger in 1950 where they began raising a family in Shelton, moving to Woodbridge in 1965. After the sudden death of David Kreiger in 1982, Sylvia moved to Oronoque Village in Stratford. Sylvia eventually reconnected with the late Samuel Frumer, a friend from Norwich Free Academy, and they married in 1995 until “Sampa” passed in 2014, after which Sylvia moved to the Evergreen Woods community in North Branford.

An only child surrounded by 26 aunts and uncles, “Mom’’ had every intention of a large family, and she fulfilled that dream. She is survived by five loving children, Roseanne Levine (Don) of Clinton, Beth Jacober (Steven) of Potomac, MD, Steven Kreiger (Hinda) of North Kingstown, RI, Kenneth Kreiger ( Joan) of Orange, Howard Kreiger (Stefanie) of Woodbridge; cherished grandchildren Aaron Dobish, Jeremy Dobish (Emily), Robert Levine (Diana), Rachel Binting (Chris), David Jacober (Nera), Benjamin Jacober ( Jennifer), Matthew Jacober, Brenton Kreiger, Noah Kreiger, Alana Wiener (Scott), Dara Kreiger, Jessica Kreiger, Daphne Kreiger, Carly Kreiger; great-grandchildren Henry Dobish, Eleanor Dobish, Daniella

Levine, Nathan Levine, Ryan Binting and Brynn Binting.

Sylvia loved spending time at the beach surrounded by family. She loved traveling, conversation, meeting new people and finding ways to connect. Mom was a story teller, whether you wanted to listen or not. There was always a story about a person, place or thing, and she collected a lot of “things.” She was incredibly generous and treated everyone fairly and equally, encouraging people to better themselves or their situation. Mom never missed a meal, and a well-stocked refrigerator was a priority. Even expired foods were considered edible.

Sylvia was generous with her time, and although her professional career was relatively short, she spent countless hours working with other organizations throughout her life. She donated time as a tutor to the Ansonia school system, local Hadassah, the Jewish Federation of New Haven, Sisterhood of Beth Israel Synagogue, B’nai Brith, and Advertising Director for

Spector Furniture, Inc of Ansonia.

Sylvia will be missed by so many people, in so many ways, and in many walks of life. She supported countless charities over the course of her life. Her family suggests any gifts made in her memory can be made to the local Hadassah (Hadassah. org), Guiding Eyes for the Blind (https://www.guidingeyes.org), or a charity of your choice.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, April 10, 10:30am at the Shure Funeral home, 543 George Street, New Haven. Burial will follow at Beth Israel Synagogue Cemetery, 18 Ladas Place, Shelton, CT 06484. All are welcome to join a reception immediately following the burial at the home of Howard Kreiger. Visitation hours, Shiva service times, and other details are found on the website link www. shurefuneralhome.com (follow the “service” link on the website to Sylvia Betsy Snitkin Kreiger Frumer).
