Mercedes Herron

Sept. 24, 1933 - May 31, 2022

-

It is with tremendous sadness that our beloved Mercedes Herron, passed into the peaceful presence of the almighty God on May 31, 2022, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Mercedes, 88, who often went by Mercy, was born in Isabela, Puerto Rico to Manuel Torres and Isabel Feliciano. Raised in Puerto Rico, she relocated to New York during her early 20s and, while working as a nurse, met and fell in love with her husband, Thomas Herron. Together for 58 years, they shared a beautiful life and had one daughter, Jeanette Herron, two grandchildren Ashley and Shea and two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Skyla. After Thomas’ sudden passing in 2012, she relocated to Bridgeport, CT to be closer to family, and remained in the care of her daughter Jeanette through her diagnosis and end of life care. Mercy was a devout Catholic and loyal servant to God, dedicating her life to prayer and sharing that love with her grandchildren through church and praying the rosary. Now that Mercy has passed into the arms of our Lord, we are encouraged to remember that while this is the end of her physical life on Earth, it’s the beginning of an eternal and beautiful journey in Heaven. Mercy joins her husband Thomas, parents Manuel and Isabel and pets Lucky and Sammy in Heaven. She is survived by her immediate family; her daughter Jeanette Herron of Bridgeport, grandchildren Ashley J, Shea T. and fiancee Sarahi, great-grandchildren Jordan and Skyla and sister Virginia Torres as well as many extended nieces and nephews. Selfless, loving, generous and kind, it was impossible to not fall in love with her presence. Her smile and sense of humor was contagious and the light she illuminated on everyone she was around will be deeply missed. Friends are invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, June 12, 2022, from 4-7 p.m. at the Funeraria Luz de Paz (Peaceful Light Funeral Home), 426 E. Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06608. Funeral Services have been scheduled for Monday, June 13, 2022, beginning at 8:00 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by departure to the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Middletown, CT where she will be laid to rest with her late spouse at 10:00 a.m. Please visit www. luzdepaz.com where you may share your thoughts, memories, prayers, pictures and so much more, but is EXCLUSIVELY found at www.luzdepaz.com.
