CT teen dies from injuries in crash
FARMINGTON — A teenager who recently graduated from Farmington High School is dead after a two-car crash Saturday night, police said.
Farmington police identified both drivers in the collision, which occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Colt Highway and Fienemann Road. The crash shut down the intersection for hours, officials said.
Farmington residents Luke Roux, 17, and Jacob Coffey, 21, were the sole occupants in each car, police said.
Both were taken to local hospitals with serious injuries. Roux later died from his injuries at John Dempsey Hospital.
Roux, a student athlete who played baseball and hockey, graduated from Farmington High School earlier this month and was scheduled to attend the University of Connecticut in the fall, according to Farmington Public Schools Superintendent Kathleen Greider.
In a letter to the Farmington community, Greider and Scott Hurwitz, the school's principal, said Roux will be remembered for his kind and gentle personality, work ethic as a student athlete and his academic achievements.
“Luke's spirit of giving back to his community for a greater good and consistently stepping up as a leader, especially during challenging times, will remain with us,” the administrators wrote. “We cherish each memory and we feel honored to have known and been a part of Luke's life over the past 13 years. Our hearts are broken over the loss of such an extraordinary, kind and beloved young man.”
The school district said in the letter it will provide counseling services to students, families, faculty and staff members this week. Counseling will be available at Farmington High School from 1 to 4 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. People in need of support can also call 860-252-7419.
Police are still investigating the incident and asking any witnesses to call the Farmington Police Department at 860-6752400.
