Joseph O’Neill Jr.
July 2, 1935 - November 15, 2022
Joseph O’Neill, Jr, 87 of Bridgeport, CT, beloved husband of the late Annette Woodrow O’Neill entered into eternal rest on November 15, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 2, 1935, in Dumbarton, Scotland, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen (Croll) O’Neill and immigrated to the U.S in 1951 at the age of 16.
After coming to America, he worked for Warnaco in the Shipping department for several years. In 1958, Joseph joined the United States Army, 24th Division Charlie Company, 31st Transportation Battalion which brought him to Germany. In 1962, he married Annette and started a family. He was employed as a millworker for Allison Manufacturing for many years and retired from Pitney Bowes in 2000. A man of deep faith, Joseph was a long time parishioner of St. Patrick Church, Bridgeport, where he was faithful member of the Morning Prayer Group. He was also a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, Monsignor Murphy Council #4716. Joseph loved history, watching soccer, building model ships, and toy trains. He was a member of the Booth Memorial Train Club for several years.
Papa Joe, as he was known, will be greatly missed by his loving children, Catherine Braisted and her husband Eric of Shelton, Karen Cross and her husband John of Trumbull, Kevin O’Neill and his partner Kristina Abbati of Bridgeport, and Christine Reichenbach and her husband Carl of Southbury, his brothers Bernard, Gerald and Charles O’Neill, his sisters Elizabeth (Robert) Berardi, Helen (Dean) Webb and sisters-in-law Veronica McQuilkin O’Neill, Sandra McCarry of Tullibody, Scotland, and grandchildren David Duprey, Sarah (Steven) Vereb, John II, Joseph Grant, and Caroline Cross, Cameron and Henry Reichenbach, Nicole Abbati and a greatgrandson, Dempsey Duprey. He was predeceased by his brother John O’Neill and sisters in law Gina, Margaret, and Shirley O’Neill. He also leaves many additional family members and dear friends.
Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2022 between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road East. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, November 21, 2022, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, 851 North Ave., Bridgeport, CT. Interment will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery, 2675 North Ave, Bridgeport. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Cathedral Parish, 170 Thompson St., Bridgeport, CT 06604 or St. Catherine Academy, 760 Tahmore Dr., Fairfield, CT.
