Helen M. Wasil

-

Helen M. Wasil, age 92, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Edward Wasil, passed away peacefully at sunset on Saturday, November 19, 2022. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Wasil was the daughter of the late Joseph and Magdalen (Yurko) Hricek. She was a resident of Stratford for most of her life.

Helen was a switchboard operator and time operator at SNET and later, Fairfield University.

Once she met the love of her life, she became a fulltime wife and mother!

“Music filled the air” whether on the kitchen radio or stereo and she and Ed loved to sing and dance, often attending dances at the Pleasure Beach Ballroom, the Ritz Ballroom, local dance clubs or around the house. Boy, could they jitterbug and polka! They loved to go to NY, seeing Camelot and other Broadway shows, attending concerts, going to the World’s Fair and even went to Times Square once on New Year’s Eve! They traveled with their family to Disney World and Cape Cod and cheered on their children and grandchildren in all their activities! Together, they raised their large family with Helen being the consummate homemaker, keeping a beautiful house whether at their warm and tiny Brooks Street apartment, or their lovely, spacious home in Stratford. Her family never went without! She was an adoring wife, a loving mother and grandmother and worked tirelessly caring for her large family.

Helen loved old movies, soap operas, celebrity news, Hallmark cards, watching “Friends” and cooking shows and Neil Diamond!

She was a devout follower of St. Theresa the Little

Flower and the Blessed Mother Mary.

Always proper and beautiful, classically dressed in heels and a skirt even in her later years, we are blessed and grateful that she lived her life independently until the end.

Helen is survived by her loving children, Edward Wasil (Teresa), Deborah Dinan, Diane Erdos ( Joseph), Andrew Wasil (Vicki), Joseph Wasil (Lydia); loving grandchildren, Emily and Ethan Wasil, Jeffery Dinan, Joey and Matthew Erdos, Betsy Nilan-Sakakini ( Jonathan), Mary and Eddy Nilan, Joey Wasil (Nicole), Tommy and Julia Wasil; stepgrandchild, Andrew Erdos (Clara and baby Ella); loving sister, Mary Mojcher; and niece and nephew, Patricia Sidlovsky (Al) and Russell Mojcher (Gail).

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her in-laws, Andrew and Elizabeth Wasil; brother, John; and her loving daughter, Mary Ann Wasil.

We’d like to thank Dr. Arnold Dorosario, Dr. Frank Ciminiello, Dr. Manuel Pun and nurses, Brenda Ganser, Kristin Ruszkowski, Cathy DoCarmo, the entire staff of the Lord Chamberlain Rehab Center, and all the family and friends who helped keep Helen healthy and independent over the years.

Friends may call on Saturday, November 26, 2022 from 10 AM to 11 AM at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main St., Stratford. The family would appreciate if visitors wear masks. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Albert Pinciaro on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 11:30 AM at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1950 Barnum Ave., Stratford.
